Human Resources Council (HRC) is dedicated to serving families, children and individuals with community based programs and education that enhance the quality of life in California's central Sierra Foothill communities. As part of our 25 year anniversary celebration (1981-2006), the leadership staff of HRC challenged the employees to design a 7 x 7 inch quilt square demonstrating "What HRC Means to Me". The squares could be done in any medium, with any theme. We received squares from over 75 employees, representing every program that HRC is involved with. Some of the squares were painted, some were stitched, some had computer generated images, and others were decorated with patches, buttons, and beads. Each one was different; each one represented the talent of our employees. And each one showed the love and passion of our employees for the community program that they work for. This quilt, when completed, will hang in the lobby of our new campus building. But how to get from muslin squares to finished product. That is when the "Quilt Committee", Cathy Bourland, Program Director for HRC Child Care Resources; Michelle Gonzalez, HRC Fiscal Manager; and Pam Brady, HRC Accounting Technician went to visit the Independence Hall Quilters of Arnold. After telling them about our community based programs, we asked them to put together our quilt. We immediately had three volunteers and a chairman for the IHQ/HRC quilt committee who jumped to the task of taking on our vision. HRC wants to thank these wonderful women, Jill Holstein, Chairman, Lianne Birkhold, Joann Libbee, and Larie Tippetts for offering to help us. We look forward to seeing the quilt in its finished form.
