HRC serves Amador and Calaveras Counties in the Sierra Nevada Foothills of California. Amador and Calaveras are rural counties bound by the great central valley to the west and the forested mountains of the sierras to the east. Much of our counties' industries are agriculture and tourism.

We are located in the middle of the region called the California Gold Country known for its popularity during the mid-1800s for the gold discoveries. Many of the towns in the area started as mining camps. Calaveras also has the distinction of being known for the Mark Twain short story "The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County."
